Students and teachers at REVA University launched ‘Jagruti’ to educate the public about the importance of voting.

Sanjiv Kumar, Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka, inaugurated the programme on Friday on the university campus in Yelahanka.

Jagruti, the first campaign of REVA Electoral Literacy Association, will entail students visiting a constituency to educate people about the importance of voting. students will enlighten the residents of Byatarayanapura Assembly constituency on the electoral voting process by way of songs, street plays, literary involvements.

Kumar said: “Free and fair elections are the need of the hour. With such educative campaigns, REVA University is establishing a model example by disseminating information which is crucial for the change that all of us want to see.”

P N Sreenivasachary, former state election commissioner, said: “Democracy cannot be taken for granted or it is at the risk of collapsing for a democratic nation like ours.”

Dr P Shyama Raju, Chancellor of the university, said: “Voting empowers the youth and hence students must make citizens aware that their participation is essential.”

S Y Kulkarni, the vice chancellor, said the RELA would work with the government to bring about a transformational change in society.
