Several Residents' Welfare Associations (RWAs) at Indiranagar have objected to the sanctioning of a petrol pump on 80 Feet Road, stating that the BBMP did not consult them before designating the place.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has sanctioned the pump on 80 Feet Road, HAL 3rd Stage near the New Tippasandra junction. RWAs in and around Indiranagar said the pump will only make the traffic congestion worse.

They gathered at the corporator's office for a ward committee meeting on Friday and discussed the matter. "We have been writing letters, seeking the Palike's reason for sanctioning the pump for many weeks, but haven't got a response," said one of the ward committee members.

"There's a traffic jam during the peak hours at the 80 Feet Road and the petrol pump there would only aggravate the situation," said Vinu Jade, another general ward committee member. "We weren’t aware of the sanctioning of the petrol pump," he added. "Residents from an apartment behind the spot alerted us about it a few months ago. Soon after that, we asked BBMP officials (about it) and they said it was sanctioned by them."

Jayashree Ganesan, a member of the tax payers' and residents' welfare association, said only the ground work for the petrol pump has been done. The petrol pump has not yet been built. "There are already three petrol pumps in New Tippasandra and the new one could come in a place where it's most needed," Jayashree said.

Corporator Shilpa K S said a letter has been sent to the BBMP commissioner, asking for swift resolution of the matter. "He's yet to respond," she said.
