The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and the BBMP signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday to facilitate the right of use of land for the proposed signal-free corridor from Vellara junction to Hope Farm Junction.

The HAL will hand over 3,100 square metres of land required for the construction of underpasses temporarily, an additional land of 600m X 8 m from Ambedkar Park to Sports Complex on the HAL premises for traffic diversion. The timeline for the underpasses project is 12 months from the date of handing over the required land.

According to a press release by the HAL, the land will be returned after the completion of an underpass at Kuvempu Circle (junction of Suranjan Das Road and Old Airport Road). In reciprocation, the BBMP will shift the existing NAL Wind Tunnel Road to the edge of HAL’s land (at Challaghatta) and construct a bridge over Challaghatta drain and stormwater drain.

Shekhar Shrivastava, CEO (Bangalore Complex), HAL, and BBMP Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad signed the MoU in presence of T Suvarna Raju, CMD-HAL.

Under the MoU, the BBMP will construct an underpass on HAL Airport Road near Suranjan Das Road Junction.
