The Election Commission (EC) officials in the city are distributing 9,756 voter IDs—seized at an apartment—back to the voters in Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency.

The officers will go from door-to-door to personally hand over the voter ID cards to every voter, said Chief Electoral Officer, Sanjiv Kumar on Friday.

"A team of 50-60 officers from Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), some from the revenue department and also other officials have been deployed to carry out the process," said M Maheshwar Rao, BBMP Commissioner.

Rao also said that most of the voter IDs were found in Lakshmi Devi Nagar and Laggere wards and hence the process to distribute them will not be tedious.

In order to gain the confidence of voters, the EC authorities will also provide new voter ID slips that contain the new date of voting and polling booth details.

If the voter is not at their houses during the officers' visit, the EC will publish an advertisement to inform them to collect it from the BBMP's zonal office, said Sanjiv Kumar.

In order to raise awareness about the importance of voting, initiatives such as street plays and holding a marchpast by the Model Code of Conduct team officers are being carried out, said Manoj Rajan, special commissioner, BBMP.

Security check

"We have spoken to the sector officers and to the Commissioner of Police to provide security on the polling day. About 1,500 police personnel will be deployed in the constituency," said Rajan.

He also said that liquor outlets will be closed in the constituency 48 hours prior to the polling day (May 28).

Almost 9,746 voter ID cards were found in SLV Park View Apartment in the Jalahalli ward of RR Nagar on May 8, 2018, just four days before the polls. The apartment belonged to one Manjula Nanjamuri, a BJP worker and it was rented out to one Rakesh.

A case has been registered at the Jalahalli police station and the Congress candidate Munirathna has been named as an accused. Due to this, the polling in the constituency was postponed and is now being held on May 28, 2018.
