'Won't support parties, but will back AAP candidate'

Despite not endorsing political parties in the Assembly polls, former Lokayukta N Santosh Hegde would back Prithvi Reddy, the Aam Aadmi Party candidate contesting from the Sarvagnanagar constituency.

Speaking to citizens during interactive sessions organised at various places in the constituency, he acknowledged that supporting a candidate and not the party might sound strange.

"I am supporting Prithvi Reddy as an individual as he is a people-friendly person and is most suited (to be an MLA). I am not joining
politics nor am I sponsoring any party or candidate," he clarified.

At the interactive session, citizens expressed their displeasure over the government and the state of affairs. They also said that they were disinclined to vote because of the candidates.

Hegde asked them to exercise the None-Of-The-Above (Nota) option which will send a strong message to the political establishment.

Noting that people are a party to the present political condition - as voters - Hegde said they now had a chance to make amends by choosing the right candidate.

Explaining the importance of voting while answering a question from a citizen, Hegde said change cannot happen overnight.

Things have changed in the last 50 years, he said, and for the better or for worse, people can reverse it through the ballot box. The problem, Hegde said, is that people have no patience.
