‘Concept of reservation misinterpreted’

Last Updated 21 July 2018, 18:53 IST

Hampi Kannada University lecturer B M Puttaiah said that the word “reservation” is misinterpreted. The reservation facilities are not availed by SC/ST communities alone. The members of various communities avail reservation facilities, he added.

Speaking at a district-level seminar on the relevance of Ambedkar’s principles, organised by SC/ST Naukarara Samanvaya Samithi on Saturday, he said, “Women also enjoy reservation facilities. The benefit of the Constitution framed by Ambedkar has been enjoyed by all. Ambedkar wanted inherited property to be shared by all the children in the family. As a result, even women members in a family get an equal share of the property. Unfortunately, women activists do not remember Ambedkar on this issue.”

He said Ambedkar embraced Buddhism as he was attracted towards it. According to Ambedkar, Buddhism was a way of life, he added.

SC/ST government employees should introspect on the pathetic condition in which they grew up in their life. Instead of worrying over promotion, the employees should try to get the government facilities to the villages and layouts where they grew up, he suggested.

DC M K Srirangaiah said the employees should ensure that the welfare schemes reach the beneficiaries.

SC/ST Naukarara Samanvaya Samithi President M T Lokeshappa presided over the seminar.
