Congress leaders, including former chief minister Siddaramaiah, on Friday, targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, during the Parivartana rally, Lok Sabha election campaign, at Dr B R Ambedkar Stadium here.

Congress leaders accused the BJP of polorising the votes in the name of religion, caste and by dividing the society. They urged the people to re-elect R Dhruvanarayan for a third-time from the constituency.

Siddaramaiah said that he fulfilled all promises made before going to elections in 2013, as the chief minister. “I had invited BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa and Modi for a debate on the Congress government’s development works, but they never took up my challenge,” Siddaramaiah said.

Describing Modi as a liar, Siddaramaiah said that he had never seen a PM like Modi. “Besides lies, Modi indulges in dividing the society by taking up emotional issues such as caste, religion. He (Modi) is polarising votes through Hinduism,” Siddaramaiah commented.

“Modi visited Hubballi and Kalaburgi and addressed the people. But, he did not highlight his government’s achievements. He is concentrating only on Ram Mandir issue, Hinduism and surgical strike,” he said.

No Ram Mandir till date

Siddaramaiah said, on December 6, 1992, Babri Masjid was demolished in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, to construct Ram Mandir. “Since 27 years, the BJP has failed to construct the mandir. Only during elections, the BJP leaders raise the issue. The leaders have collected funds and bricks for the construction of the Mandir. But, they have dumped the bricks and have looted the money,” he ridiculed.

“The PM had assured of bringing ‘Achhe din’ (good days) for the people of the nation. Achhe din has come for no one, including women, children, farmers. But, people like Ambani, Adani, Vijay Mallya, are enjoying good days. Modi-led Union government has failed to waive off farm loans and has also failed to generate at least 2 crore jobs in the last five years,” he said.

Taking severe exception to Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Anant Kumar Hegde for his statements on the Constitution, Siddaramaiah said, it is the responsibility of every individual to oppose those, who comment negatively on the Constitution.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dinesh Gundu Rao said, “Modi has failed to keep his promises and has ruined the Indian economy. Modi is not speaking about his achievements, but, is making emotional speeches.

Pulwama attack

BJP state president Yeddyurappa politicised the Pulwama attack, which is a shame. There was a little peaceful situation in Jammu-Kashmir, but, now, there is a turbulent atmosphere. Rao held Modi responsible for the situation and urged the people to support the Congress for a better future.

Former minister C M Ibrahim said that the country has faced the worst situation during Modi’s rule. There will be no elections in the future if Modi is re-elected. The country has become weak and countries like Pakistan and Nepal are issuing threat to India, he said.
