Cong ups social media game in Chhattisgarh

Last Updated 07 October 2018, 19:18 IST

Matching up to the BJP's IT cell is "not possible" for the Congress, said Jaywardhan Bissa, IT Cell chief of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee.

He said that the IT cell of the BJP is run by professionals while that of the Congress is run by party workers. Gloating on the party's recent success of putting the BJP on the backfoot over roads, where the BJP IT cell had shown roads of different countries including China and Pakistan as those of India's.

When the Congress challenged the tweet, the BJP said that it was "for representational purpose only."

The Congress, which was not much active on the social media, upped their game when BJP chief Amit Shah asked his party's IT cell to spread lies if that benefits the party.

An instance of fake news propagated by the BJP IT cell was when it circulated in the social media that SP chief Akhilesh Yadav had slapped his father and party patron Mulayam Singh.

After this episode, the Congress also decided to "fight back," Bissa said.

In Chhattisgarh, Congress IT cell organisations have been set up from the booth to the Lok Sabha levels. Besides, separate and parallel organisations have been set up to tackle local issues. These organisations also rally after the Lok Sabha IT cell to propagate the party's "news", he said. This apart, workers also communicate through "Sahkti App".

He, howevre, added that finance is a problem and that these workers work more than 13 hours a day without taking remunerations.
