Consumers should be aware of their rights, said Deputy Commissioner P I Sreevidya.

Speaking at the National Consumer Day programme organised by the district administration and district consumer information centre, at Kaveri Kalakshetra in Madikeri on Friday, she said, “Each and every individual is a consumer. It is the responsibility of all the citizens to protect consumer rights. The consumers should not fall prey to dubious methods of marketing. Consumers should be cautious while purchasing products.”

“The consumers should ensure that they are not cheated in weights and measures. Any complaints with regard to poor products can be brought to the notice of consumer grievances redressal forum,” said District Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum President C V Maragooru.

Advocate M A Niranjan said, “Consumers are not goods. The consumers should be respected.”

Food and Civil Supplies Deputy Director S Sadashivaiah said that consumers are cheated one or the other way. To avoid getting cheated, the consumers should be aware of their rights.
