According to Harish, the leader of the rebel group is not M P Renukacharya, but former minister Balachandra Jarkiholi. The ploy was to install an alternative Congress-JD(S) government.

As many as 14 ministerial berths were offered to the group if they withdrew support to the ruling BJP government. The plan was to make Congress leader Siddaramaiah the chief minister and H D Revanna of the JD(S) as the deputy chief minister. Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy would be offered a berth in the Union Cabinet.

Harish said his conscience prevented him from joining hands with the group and he alerted the chief minister of their move. However, the group soon found out he had no intention of being a part of the group and Harish had to return to Bangalore on Wednesday.

Complaint

Harish lodged a complaint with the Vidhana Soudha police on Wednesday evening alleging that about eight unidentified Kannada-speaking persons, aged 25 to 30, threatened him with dire consequences if he did not sign the letter withdrawing support to the BJP Government.

According to the legislator, the incident occurred when he had come out of his hotel room in Chennai, where he was staying with other MLAs, to fetch tablets kept in his car in the parking lot between 9:30 and 10 pm on Tuesday.

Harish alleged that signatures of a few MLAs might have been forged.
