Suspected Pujari gang member arrested in Mumbai

On a tip off, police laid a trap in Ramwadi area last evening when the accused identified as Vasant Suvarna (62), associated with Pujari gang, was found moving about suspiciously, police said.

He was subsequently caught and on being frisked, a pistol, one magazine and two live cartridges were found, they said, adding Suvarna, along with his associates, was involved in several jewellery shops' robberies in the city and neighbouring Thane district. In the last few weeks, a special team headed by Deputy Police Commissioner K M M Prasanna have nabbed nearly 15 members of Pujari gang after a surge in firing and extortion attempts on builders and jewellery shop owners in western suburbs.
