Sheshagiri Hanagal honoured

Curtains were down on the nine-day cultural fiesta at the Palace with giving away the Asthana Vidwan title to Hanagal in recognition of his contribution to Hindustani music.

In his address, the Chief Minister said Hanagal was one among the best musicians in the State despite his disability due to polio. “Our government has given importance to Dasara to make it a great event by increasing the fund allocation every year. The progress of State will be the only objective of Government,” he said adding that medal winners from State at the Common Wealth Games will be presented the cash award.

Private Durbar concludes

Meanwhile, the private durbar inside the Palace ended on Saturday evening with scion of royal family performing Ayudha pooja.

The Ayudha pooja in the day was followed by Go pooja in the evening. The private durbar which stretches for nine-days during the Navaratri festival unfolds the past grandeur of royal family. On the Vijayadashami day, the tenth day of the Dasara festival was marked with Pallaki Utsava inside palace, where Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar is taken on a procession on a silver howdah.

This event was followed by Vajra Mushti Kalaga, a form of wrestling art where the wrestlers use their fist fitted with the sharp weapon to attack each other.

Grand finale

The ten-day festivities ended with spectacular torchlight parade at the Bannimantap grounds.
