Court brawls: Law minister to convene meeting

Last Updated 19 October 2010, 19:02 IST

Repeated incidents involving  advocates taking law into their own hands within the court premises seem to have scarred the judiciary. Monday’s incident involving a mob rage among nearly 200  advocates who manhandled an accused presented in the Magistrate’s Court, have raised serious questions on the advocates’ attitude.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Law Minister Suresh Kumar stated that such repeated incidents have brought a ‘bad name’ to the judiciary and law in the City. “How can those who are looked upon to protect law, take law into their own hands?” asked the minister.

Taking serious note of the incidents over the last few months, the minister has convened a meeting with Home Minister, City Police and the office-bearers of the Advocates Association in the following week.
