Nirmohi Akhara to approach SC before Nov 30

Last Updated 28 October 2010, 10:54 IST

"The Akhil Bhartiya Sreepanch Ramamnandiya Nirmohi Akhara Parishad would approach the apex court before November 30, but at the same time it will continue its efforts for reaching an amicable solution to the vexed issue," the mahant and sarpanch of the Nirmohi Akhara, Bhaskar Das, told newspersons here.

He said that representatives of the Akhara will meet the president of the Sunni Central Waqf Board and members of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and request them to contribute in order to reach an amicable solution to the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Mosque dispute.

"We will meet people of the stature of former President A P J Abdul Kalam, Swami Ramdev, Sri Ravishankar, the Shankaracharyas and Mahamandaleshwars to seek their help in resolving the issue," the mahant said.

Spokesman of the Akhara Ram Das said they will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in this regard, though the Akhara would try to keep political people at bay as they create unnecessary hurdles.

He said that yesterday he met the other main litigant in the case, Hashim Ansari. "Hashim Ansari wants peace and tranquility in Ayodhya and has been working for the same. He told us that though he is ready that the mosque be built at another place away from the disputed site, some fundamentalists are against it and are trying to isolate him (Ansari)," Ram Das said.

Expressing displeasure over the VHP's contention that no new mosque would be acceptable in Ayodhya, Ram Das said that if required, the Nirmohi Akhara would provide land for another mosque within Ayodhya.

"The distance between the mandir and masjid should be such that it does not affect daily prayers and other rituals," he said, adding, the Akhara wanted to give a message to the world by making Ayodhya an example of peace and brotherhood.

"Now that the High Court has also accepted that the said land is the birthplace of Lord Ram, Muslims would find it easy to hand over the land to Hindus to pave way for construction of the temple," Ram Das said.

He said that the Nyas of the Nirmohi Akhara has the right to construct the temple at the site and not the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas of the VHP. "Muslims too have had no objections to it (Nyas of the Akhara) as they do not want any other body to play a role in it (construction of the temple)," he said.

He claimed that the Nyas set up by the VHP as well as the Uchchadhikar Samiti were both illegal and that the Ram Janmbhoomi was given to the Nirmohi Akhara when it was set up for protection of Hindus and their places of worship.

Mahant Bhaskar Das said that after the BJP formed its government at the Centre, it forgot all about Lord Ram.
