The Union Ministry of Culture has requested the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) to prepare an initial report on the conservation requirement on the heritage buildings of the College. INTACH is an organisation involved in promoting and preserving the cultural heritage of India since the last 25 years.

The organisation has the requisite expertise in various aspects of the cultural heritage including architectural, natural and material significance. The organisation takes up the responsibility of preserving heritage buildings with the strength of its expert technical divisions along with the support of more than 150 INTACH chapters spread across the country.

INTACH, which has undertaken prestigious conservation projects including restoration of Ashok Hall in the Rashtrapathi Bhawan in New Delhi, the Senate House in Chennai, the Judicial Complex in Faridkot and many other prestigious government buildings, has already responded to the request made by the Union Ministry of Culture. In a letter sent to the College, INTACH Director (Programme) Divay Gupta informed that in view of the expertise that the organisation has, the Union Ministry of Culture has asked them to prepare an initial report on the conservation requirements on the heritage buildings of the College. “This has been done based on the request made by Union Minister of Law and Justice M Veerappa Moily. In this regard, we propose to visit the College in the end of November,” the letter read.

The organisation also requested the college authorities to suggest the scope of work to prepare a project proposal.

Alumni meet

Union Minister M Veerappa Moily, who is also the honourary president of the Mangalore University College Alumni Association, convened a meeting to discuss about the development works to be undertaken in the College on Sunday.

Moily said that the government will take initiatives to hand over the responsibility of conserving and restoring the heritage buildings of the College to INTACH. The team of INTACH will visit the college and prepare the project proposal soon, he added.
