Introduce 'Bhagya Saraswati' for students, says litterateur

Addressing the inaugural programme of national library week at central library, Bautagudde, Mangalore on Thursday, he said that under the ‘Bhagya Saraswati’ books should be distributed among students in the same way as sarees are being distributed under Bhagyalakshmi scheme.

“Books of Shivaram Karanth and other great writers must be published and distributed among students. Love for books must be developed as a culture among students,” he said adding that students should have insatiable love for books.

He said that it is the teachers who should take the responsibility of developing love for books among students.

“Students should not become mechanical. They should be read more and more books and broaden their horizon,” he said.

Mangalore South MLA N Yogish Bhat said that books are good source of inspiration for life.
The programme was inaugurated by Zilla Panchayat President Santhosh Kumar Bhandary who said that libraries should be constructed at every GP.

Mangalore City Corporation Mayor Rajani Dugganna presided over the programme.

Engineering College

MLA N Yogish Bhat said that a government engineering college will be established at Karnataka Polytechnic College, Kadri. He said that plan was kept before Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and Minister for Higher Education Dr V S Acharya on Wednesday and both have given in-principle approval to the same.
