Food and Civil Supplies Minister V Somanna on Saturday categorically said that he would quit politics if the State government appoints him as district-in-charge of other district, after the elections to taluk and zilla panchayats.

At a press meet here, he said Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has shouldered him the responsibility of Hassan district to oversee implementation of development works. “Due to demand of people and party workers, the CM once again appointed me to Hassan district.

Hitherto, he had served as in-charge minister for 17 days before appointing Excise Minister M P Renukacharya”.

Somanna exuded his confidence that he would be continued in the same district for the next two and a half years. “I am optimistic that CM would not disturb me again. As I am also district in-charge minister of Tumkur, I will serve as a night watchman in that district”.

Regarding violation of poll code as alleged by Congress leaders, the minister said distributing 15 kg of rice for APL card holders is not a new scheme. It had been announced by himself before the elections to taluk and zilla panchayats were announced. It is common to make such allegations during elections.
