Last Updated 13 December 2010, 19:11 IST

Dayanand was hounded by the residents during his visit to Nagarabhavi ward and Arundhatinagar slum who complained about severe shortage of public toilets and lack of drainage system. He also noticed that the government had failed to provide title deeds to slum dwellers for the past 17 years.

The deputy mayor appealed to the authorities to implement the 22.75 per cent scheme wherein Rs 470 crore had been allocated for the purpose of upgrading slums.

Basic amenities like toilets, drinking water, housing and power supply could be provided to slum-dwellers with the fund, he said.

Dayanand issued directions to chief engineer (South Zone) Ananthaswamy to provide basic amenities to slum-dwellers with immediate effect.

He also visited Hoysala Nagar and Nayandahalli where he received memoranda from residents on ration cards, title deeds, improvement of roads and drains.

Dayanand also inspected encroachments on BBMP properties.
