JOIN USThe BJP has fielded 369 candidates, followed by Congress - 365 and JD(S) - 338. There are 382 independents in the fray. The maximum number of nominations are from Tumkur - 225, followed by Bidar and Chitradurga - 151 each and Kolar - 143.
A total of 6,144 candidates are in the fray for 1,728 Taluk Panchayat seats in 15 districts. Candidates in six TP constituencies have been elected unopposed in the first phase. Of these, BJP has bagged five seats and JD(S) one.
Monday was the last date for filing nominations for the second and last phase of the Zilla and Taluk Panchayat elections.
The State Election Commission officials said that the total number of nominations filed would be known by Thursday evening.
Zilla and Taluk Panchayats in 17 districts –– Chikmagalur, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya, Mysore, Chamarajnagar, Belgaum, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Uttara Kannada, Davangere and Koppal will go to polls during the second phase on December 31.
