Dereliction of duty: Four suspended, 8 served notice

In a press release here, G Satyavathi, chief executive officer of Mysore Zilla Panchayat has said it was the duty of every government official to ensure that the benefits being given by the State government reached the poor students in government run hostels. Besides, they have to be in constant touch with the rural population to know about their health as well as to monitor the functioning of primary health centres. However, she said, during her visit to many offices, hospitals and hostels, she found lot of shortfalls. More importantly, the officials who were supposed to be present, were on unauthorised absence. Since it was the duty of every officer to discharge his/her duty effectively without being callous towards their duty. The government would not tolerate such an indiscipline behaviour, she added.
The staff of Department of Social Welfare who are placed under suspension are; D Ramaiah, Saroja, Pushpalatha, C Krishnamurthy.

Those who are served show cause notice are Sitaramappa, district social welfare officer, Mahadev, assistant inspector, Dr Mahadeswamy, administrative health officer, Dr Maithili, Dr Chandrika Babu, Dr K S Ravikumar, Honnegowda and Shankar.

Satyavathi said she also visited some hostels where she found that the hostel authorities have submitted proposals seeking more funds by giving wrong figures of students staying there. Action is being initiated against such officials.

Apart from taking disciplinary action, it was also her duty to check misappropriation of funds. Henceforth, the officials should be present at the places of work and address to the grievances of general public, she added.
