National chess tourney in city from July 20

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Association President M S Gururaj said that around 400 players including Grand Masters, International Masters and Top Fide players are expected to participate in the tournament, which is recognised by the United Karnataka Chess Association and All India Chess Federation.

 A total of 60 winning players will bag cash prizes worth Rs 3 lakh. Apart from top 30 places, special prizes will be given to two unrated players, best women players and best veteran players of above 55 years, he said. Two promising talents of Karnataka and two from Dakshina Kannada district will be honoured with cash prizes, he added.

Gururaj said that there will be 10 rounds of four hours each which will be played under Fide rules.

Entries should be sent to South Kanara District Chess Association, No:3, Radhakrishna Temple Building, G T Road, Mangalore, before July 10, he said adding that entry with late fee of Rs 300 will be accepted till July 19.
