600 tonnes onions imported from Pak to reach Mundra port on Friday

Another tranche of about 500 tonnes of onion is expected to reach Mudra port next week, they added.

The landed cost of onion imported from Pakistan would be about Rs 32 per kg, sources said.
Onions can be imported from Pakistan only through sea route, as the neighbouring country has imposed ban on export of the commodity to India via land and rail route.

The government had asked the state-owned trading firms PEC and STC to import onions to boost domestic supply and control rising prices of onion, which had surged to Rs 70-85 per kg on December 20.

The imported onions contracted by STC were stuck at the Wagah-Attari border because of the ban.
