No Indian casualties in Australian floods: High Commission

Last Updated 03 May 2018, 05:28 IST

"The High Commission has not received any reports to date of any casualties amongst Indian nationals," the mission said in a statement from Canberra.

It said the Indian government was monitoring the situation in the flood-affected region closely regarding welfare of the Indian nationals, who have been severely affected. The High Commission is in touch with Australian authorities concerned and India's Honorary Consul in Brisbane Sarva Daman Singh to get information about recent developments, it said.

The mission has advised relatives of Indians or overseas students based in Queensland to contact a 24-hour information line set up by the state government, which is 0061-7-30556220 or 1300993191.

It also advised the international students travelling to Queensland to check latest updates on floods, apart from other safety measures like following advice of police and complying with evacuation orders.
