He was speaking after inaugurating a camp organised for women on consumer rights awareness by City Municipal Council, Department of Food, Consumer affairs and Civil Supplies here on Thursday. The officer said.
The consumers were cheated by traders and shop keepers while buying goods. The people should check whether the products bore ISI mark and compulsory collect the bills before leaving the premises. Of late, substandard goods were being sold to people in the name of discount sale.
The consumers can file the complaint at the consumer redressal forum opened in every district by producing the bills, he added.
Besides, the ration card holders can also complain to officials of food and civil supplies department if any fair price shops and co-operative societies demand extra money.
City Municipal Council vice-president Selvi Babu advised women to be aware of consumer rights.
The CMC commissioner, B Krishnappa asked consumers not to be misled by the colourful advertisements. They should insist on neatly packed goods along with the bill. There are complaints regarding packaged food items.
City Municipal Council President Bhagyamma, Stree Shakthi Association President Hemavathy and others were present.
