Voters' Day on Jan 25

Addressing a meet here on Friday, Additional Deputy Commissioner K M Chandre Gowda and Assistant Commissioner Dr M R Ravi said January 25 marks the foundation day of Election Commission of India. Programmes will be held in all the 360 polling booths in the district. As many as 462 booth level officials will take part in the programme.

The Additional DC said: “We have strong belief in democracy. We have upheld the principles of peace and justice in our elections. All of us exercise franchise irrespective of caste, religion, creed, and language.”

The programme aims at enrolling the voters and motivating the voters to actively take part in the democratic process. A badge ‘proud to be a voter—ready to vote’ will be distributed to those who will register their names for the voters list in the polling booth, he added.

Booth level officers will organise programme on January 25. The programme will be attended by School/college principals, Gram Panchayat members and first time enrolled voters. An oath will be administered to all the participating members. Booth level officers will be given ID.

The booth-level officers will receive application for the enrolment and correction in voters ID on the occasion.

In fact, the district administration had also organised painting competition for primary school students and debate competition for high school and degree students. The winners will be given prizes at a programme on January 25 at Old Fort premises at 10.30 am. All the participants of the competition will be given an appreciation letter.
