Indian, Chinese armies celebrate R-Day

The tricolour was unfurled at the beginning of the meeting and both Chinese and Indian delegations saluted the the national flag, a defence spokesman said.The meeting was held in an atmosphere of mutual trust and camaraderie with both sides exchanging greetings, he said.

“The Chinese side, led by Senior Colonel Fan Jun, was received by Brigadier Y K Joshi,” the spokesman said.

He said both sides agreed to maintain peace, stability and tranquility in the region in consonance with the Border Peace and Tranquility Agreement.

“At the end of the meeting both delegations saluted the tricolor and the Chinese delegation was escorted back to the Line of Actual Control," the spokesman said.

India and China signed the Peace and Tranquility Agreement in 1993 and Confidence Building Measures in 1996.Border personnel meetings in Eastern Ladakh sector are held six times a year between Indian and Chinese military delegations
