Ex-judges' role alleged in sex racket again

Rauf alleged at a news conference in Kozhikode that he was witness to money being handed over from Kunhalikutty to Justice Narayana Kurup’s son-in-law Sunny by former additional director-general of prosecutions K C Peter.

“I am witness to this money being carried by Peter and Sunny coming out with it in his hands,” Rauf who fell out with Kunhalikutty a year ago said. It may be recalled that a recent sting operation conducted by a Malayalam TV channel had K C Peter claiming that both the judges were involved in the “save Kunhalikutty mission”.  Peter had claimed during the sting that Rauf had “gone through the way I showed them”’.

Rauf further said Kunhalikutty had contacted Justice K Thankappan through a former additional Advocate-General. However, when there was a delay in the court order, he (Rauf) was sent to Peter to find out the reason.

“I myself accompanied Peter to Justice Thankappan’s house. When he came back after about 25 minutes he told me that everything will be alright,” Rauf claimed at the news meet.  Meanwhile, (Retd) Justice K Thankappan has threatened to sue K A Rauf in the wake of his claims during the day. “I have no relations with Rauf or Peter,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the issue continued to raise enough heat and dust in political circles with the IUML solidly behind its general secretary Kunhalikutty and claiming that efforts were on to tarnish the party’s image.

The Congress also rallied behind the IUML with Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy claiming that there was nothing new in the present  “revelations”.

“Besides, if there is something new, Kunhalikutty himself has said that he is willing to face any inquiry into it,’’ he said.
