The herd of 27 elephants killed Nagabhushana Reddy (35) and caused serious injuries to Srirama Reddy (37) at Chikkabommanahalli. The members of the Chowdeshwari women’s self help group were meeting when the elephants entered the village.

Seeing the elephants, the villagers panicked and ran helter skelter. Nagabhushana Reddy was cornered by an elephant which picked him up with its trunk and threw him. He was admitted to the government hospital in Bangarpet but died despite medical attention.

“Suddenly, there was screaming and people rushing to seek shelter from the wild elephants. I could not understand what was happening. None of us had seen wild elephants from that close. I froze with fear and could not even run. Then I saw one of the animals picking up Nagabhushana and smashing him to the ground,” the injured  Shrirama Reddy told Deccan Herald at the hospital.
