Serenity Rehabilitation Centre in Akshara Nagar was raided by the Inspector General of Police, KSHRC, following a complaint by Thimmachar, a retired PSI.

The complainant, a resident of Arakere, alleged that Ravi and others kidnapped him between 10.15 pm and 11.20 pm on November 10, 2010.

Later, they took him to an unknown place in a car and detained him there. Thimmachar alleged that a few people harassed, threatened and assaulted him. But his brother interfered and got him out on February 2, 2011.

During the raid, the KSHRC team found that nearly 54 people were crammed in the centre which is a small house with no civic amenities.

It has only two toilets and a kitchen. While the centre authorities claim that inmates came there voluntarily to get rid of drug addiction and alcoholism, its “pathetic” condition did not support the claim, KSHRC said.

The inmates were brought there allegedly as per the instruction of their family members. Thimmachar, too, was admitted there reportedly at the behest of his wife and children.
The Hulimavu police have booked a case and arrested three persons. More suspects will be arrested later.
