Queen's granddaughter to wed in July

Rebel of family

Phillips, daughter of Princess Anne and her first husband Mark Phillips, will wed the captain of England’s rugby team Mike Tindall on July 30 in the Scottish capital, Edinburgh.

The ceremony will be just three months after Prince William, elder son of heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles, marries Kate Middleton at London’s Westminster Abbey on April 29.

Buckingham Palace said Phillips, 29, and Tindall would wed at Canongate Kirk, the parish church of Edinburgh Castle, with a reception at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the queen’s official residence in Scotland.

Phillips was considered the rebel of the royal family as a teenager before following in her mother’s footsteps to enjoy a successful horse riding career.

BBC award

In 2006, she won an individual gold on her horse Toytown at the World Equestrian Games in Germany, helped Britain win a team silver and was voted BBC sports personality of the year.

Tindall, 32, is also a well-known sportsman. Currently captain of the England rugby team, he was part of the England side which beat Australia to win the World Cup in 2003.

Former England player Iain Balshaw has been chosen as best man, Tindall’s teammate with club side Gloucester James Simpson-Daniel told a local paper.

Princess Anne rode in the 1976 Olympics and was European Champion in 1971, while Mark Phillips won an Olympic team gold in eventing in 1972. They divorced in 1992.
