BJP plans privilege move against PM

Cash-for-votes scam: BJP leaders demand CBI investigation into the issue

Leaders of Opposition Sushma Swaraj (Lok Sabha) and Arun Jaitley (Rajya Sabha) said here at a joint press conference  that the prime minister and the UPA government were “the principal beneficiaries of the cross voting.”

Jaitley said in contrast to what the prime minister had stated, the Enquiry Committee constituted by the 14th Lok Sabha “by a majority decision” concluded that bribes were paid  to three MPs by Sajeev Saxena, an  assistant to former SP leader Amar Singh.

The BJP leader said the Committee had no doubt on the bribe payment, but it needed to investigate persons who ultimately benefited from it. This was the recommendation of the committee, he said.

“Saxena was a bribe giver wittingly or unwittingly…on whose behalf Saxena was operating (is not yet known).. therefore his role in the matter needs to be investigated further,” Jaitley quoted the enquiry committee.

Swaraj and Jaitley demanded a CBI investigation into the alleged bribe payments for winning the confidence vote.

“Even belatedly, are you willing to show any repentance and accept moral responsibility for such a monumental blunder and resign as the prime minister,” the two leaders said in a joint statement issued by the party after the Lok Sabha proceedings.
