Do not evict Dalit families: Leaders

At a vigilance committee meeting held to discuss on the implementation of Prevention of SC/ST harassment Act, tribals schemes, Dalit Sangharsha Samithi (Bheemavada) leader P Keshava said:

“We are not against evicting those who had encroached the government land. However, before evicting alternative land should be provided to the Dalits. Why the district administration is silent over reclaiming DC manna land which have been encroached illegally by the public.”

Assistant Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti said: “We have already collected information on the DC manna land earmarked for the Dalits. Measures will be taken to reclaim the encroached DC manna land.”

Vishu Kumar alleged that more than 205 acre DC manna land in Urwa Store, Kodikal, Daddalkodi, Derebail region have been encroached.

Surendra said “the facilities under Ambedkar Corporation is not available for the beneficiaries. When asked on it, the officials give a standard answer that funds are not available. Where des the funds released for the development of Dalits go?” he asked.

As the official from the Ambedkar Corporation was absent to the meeting, the Assistant Commissioner  directed the authorities to issue a notice to the officer.

Keshav said “more than 22 Dalit families are residing in Kunjathbail for the last 10 years. The MCC officials have clearly stated that title deeds can not be given to the families. The families are in distress.”

The Assistant Commissioner said that the law related to “Akrama sakrama’ do not include City Corporation limits. There is a scope for providing alternative facility to the families.
