Last Updated 22 March 2011, 13:55 IST

Metropolitan Magistrate Sandeep Garg, who convicted the woman under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, said, "Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, the convict is sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for seven days."

The provision of the ITP Act, under which the woman was convicted, provides six months jail term as maximum sentence.

The court took into account the facts that she confessed to the allegations and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Andhra Pradesh.

The woman, staying at a red light area here, was accused of making indecent gestures to a man in her bid to seduce him on July 28, 2007.

The man, who was passing through the area, took serious offence of her gestures and lodged a complaint with the police.

During the course of trial, the woman pleaded guilty despite being warned of the consequences, the court said.

The court took a lenient view considering her confessions and the fact that she was suffering from HIV.
