Last Updated 20 July 2009, 14:13 IST

Sakleshpur taluk stands  first when it comes to producing high quality cardamom in India. If you happen to visit shops at Sakleshpur you will surely notice cardamom garlands hanging outside the shops. These garlands range between Rs 100 and Rs 1000 depending upon quality, size and material used. These garlands are made locally. More than 20 families are engaged in making them. Decorative items required to prepare such garlands such as woollen balls, beads and steel rings are bought from Bangalore.

The Sakleshpur market has good quality cardamom and the garland makers choose their raw material from there.

The cardamom is bleached properly before using it to prepare garlands.
Well-bleached cardamoms can long last.
