The district Malaria Eradication Officer Dr Babureddy has confirmed the outbreak of chikungunya in Chikkaballapur district.

The officer, in a press release on Friday, said of the total eight cases in the district three cases were reported in Gauribidanur taluk, one in Chikkaballapur taluk and two each in Shidlaghatta and Bagepalli taluks.

The district Health Department has taken up several measures to check the spread of the disease. The breeding places of mosquitoes such as drainage, stagnant water are being cleared in the villages across the district. The health workers and anganwadi workers have carried out door-to-door campaign to create awareness among the residents to keep their surroundings clean and keep the water tanks and vessels used to store water tidy.

They have told them to bleach the water tanks at least once in a week, he said. Other preventive measures to be followed by the villagers are that they should not store the water unnecessarily, and they should use nets while sleeping to avoid mosquito bites.
