Transforming fashion

Subtle: The creations on display.

Designer duo Sanjay and Shammy Choraria are all set to break the popular notion that men and pregnant women have limited choices when it comes to clothing. They have introduced a whole new range of clothing which they will showcase at the Bangalore Fashion Week (BFW), slated to happen in the City this weekend.

Not wanting to give away too many details, Sanjay, told Metrolife that both the collections will revolve around celebration. “The collection Utsav is an ode to celebration of colours, patterns, style and others,” says Sanjay.

The collection sashays sherwanis, jodhpuris and kurtas in stylish cuts with embellishments added to give a touch of royalty to the ensemble. The collection also consists of western outfits like suits and waist coats for men. “Many people think that there are limited clothes for men to wear. But that’s not true, there is so much one can work on, for example, in the sherwani line itself one can give good detailing work on the chudi bottom making it very stylish and even the tie is such an important aspect,” he says adding, “the men’s collection in short will be a Mughal-e-Azam in colour.”

In 2005, the duo included a new addition to their line which they aptly call, Maaternity, a clothing line for pregnant women. For the BFW, they have designed some very chic, party wear for the pregnant lasses. “The concept came in 2005 when my wife, Shammy, was pregnant and had nothing to wear. That’s when we thought why not make clothes for all those women who are pregnant and still want to party,” he adds.

Though they do not believe in showstoppers, Sanjay says that he does have a couple of surprises like Robin Uthappa, Sanjana and Harish Raj who would be among the many models hitting the ramp.  The show will be held on July 25 between 6 pm and 9 pm.
