There are no proper restaurants and lodging facilities to cater to the travellers, who visit the place all through the year. Though Hotel Mayura Shantala, an undertaking of Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation is situated right at the temple premises, the tourists have to literally run from pillar to post to find a decent meal.

The hotel comprises four rooms which can be hired but once booked in, the lack of basic amenities comes to the fore. Though there are wash basins and flush there is no water supply to the toilets. Solar and geyser are only for namesake as there is no hot water available, complain the tourists.

There are only two permanent employees in the hotel. There is only one cook and no food is available to those who stay overnight at the hotel. The post of Manager of the hotel is lying vacant and the hotel rooms are being maintained by the private employees. The higher officials of KSTDC, who visited Hotel Mayura Melapuri in Belur have not visited the hotel in Halebeedu, which has given room for suspicion.

The locals believe that the KSTDC is planning to privatise Hotel Mayura Shantala and hence it is being neglected to the core. Meanwhile Taluk Panchayat member B S Somashekar, Gram Panchayat President Ningappa has warned of staging a protest if any steps are taken to privatise the hotel.

The authorities concerned should take measures to set right the problems and facilitate the visitors who wish to stay overnight at this historical place, say locals.
