The village has Donisara, Karkodalu, Hunasekeri sub villages with more than 100 houses. The village was supplied with water from a borewell which was drilled 10 years ago. At present, the water-level has declined in the borewell along with increase in the number of consumers. The villagers, school society, Anganwadi centre in Bellur village depends on borewell for water. Now the situation has worsened with the villagers struggling to get water daily. The villagers get one or two pots of water once in few days. Though three borewells were drilled in the village, all were not successful, said a villager. “We are forced to depend on private persons for the supply of water,” he added.

Villagers say if the government constructs a barrage near Donisara foot bridge and collects water and supplies to a overhead tank, then the water problem can be solved.Gram Panchayat Member K S Umesh said there is a shortage of fund for permanent drinking water project with the Gram Panchayat. The Zilla Panchayat should chalk out a plan.

“Though we are in Malnad, we hardly get one or two pots of water daily. We have to get water from streams,” rued villager Kushala Poojary.

The district administration which had stated that there is no shortage of funds for water projects, does not understand the problems of the Bellur villagers.
