Protests against Guv, fuel price hike

Members of BJP district unit staged a protest here against the imposition of presidents rule in the State.

Shouting slogans against the Governor, the protesters burnt the effigy of  H R Bhardwaj. 

The Governor is working to destabilise the State government, the agitators alleged and warned to intensify the protest if the Governor is not recalled.

N Lakshmaiah, Sriram, Hanumappa, Lakshmana Gowda, Manjula, Vijayalakshmi, Dr Krishnamurthy, Mutyalamma, Krishne Gowda and others led the protest.

Fuel price hike

Members of Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a road blockade here on Tuesday against the petrol price hike.

Petrol prices have been increased twice in the last six months following dismantling of the administered price mechanism. It has been hiked  by Rs 10.50 in past six months. Oil marketing companies have been increasing the fuel prices at will in the decontrol regime.

The Union Government has remained a mute spectator to the wanton act of the OMCs, the agitators alleged.

The tax imposed by the State government has also burdened the people, they claimed and demanded that the governments take suitable action against price rise.

G Arjunan, Gandhinagar Narayanaswamy, P R Suryanarayana, Venkatesh and others led the protest.
