I-Day preparatory meeting held

Speaking on the occasion, DC said that the Independence Day must be observed in a nice manner. “There is no need to collect funds from the public to celebrate Independence Day.”

“Let us join hands with various organisations and public in celebrating Independence Day. Let us invite freedom fighters and those who have made yeomen service to the society to the function and felicitate them,” he added.

A welcome committee, cultural committee, finance committee and food committee was formed on the occasion. The DC directed officials to convene a meeting by August 5 and submit a report on August 6.

The welcome committee will take a decision on the chief guests to the meeting. All the district and taluk officials should compulsorily take part in the celebration. Stringent action will be initiated against those who fail to attend Independence Day celebrations, the DC warned.

CMC and Horticulture department was asked to clean the statues of Mahathma Gandhi, Field Marshal Cariappa, General Thimmaiah and Kuvempu.

In Koppa

“Disciplinary action will be taken against those officials who do not celebrate Independence Day in their offices,” said Tahsildar Dasabovi.

Addressing a preparatory meet on I-Day celebration at Koppa on Monday, he said all officials should compulsorily attend the celebrations.

The meeting decided to invite freedom fighters and elected representatives to the function. It also decided to hold the flag hoisting ceremony at the Town Panchayat ground, hold march past by students (if there is no rain), cultural programmes at the town hall.

Executive Officer Kantharaj, Block Education Officer Ramesh and police official Suresh G Nayak were present.
