Raja, a native of Coimbatore, is said to have been upset over unconfirmed reports that the actor under treatment in Singapore might need a kidney transplant.
On Monday, he consumed sleeping pills and fell unconscious. He was rushed to a private hospital. When he regained consciousness, he reportedly told the doctor that if he turned ‘brain dead’, his kidney should be donated to Rajnikant.
Raja’s wife and 11-year-old daughter were away from home, when Raja allegedly attempted suicide. He is a former office-bearer of the local Rajnikant Fans Association, attempted suicide.
Raja, who adds ‘Rajni’ to his name as a prefix, had become depressed a few days after the superstar fell ill.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister J Jayalalitha enquired about Rajnikant’s health when his son-in-law and actor Dhanush called on her at the Old Secretariat here on Tuesday.
Dhanush, his wife Aishwarya and sister-in-law Soundarya, had gone to Singapore when Rajnikant was flown from here for further tests at a hospital there. Jayalalitha “congratulated us on winning (national film) awards and also enquired about Rajnikant’s health,” Dhanush told reporters.
