For the development of outdoor stadium, the government had earmarked Rs 128.24 lakh in the budget. Accordingly, it had released Rs 50 lakh in the first phase. Now the government has passed an order to release pending Rs 79 lakh.

In the meantime, for the construction of indoor stadium, of the Rs 1.98 crore, the government had released a sum of Rs one crore. Now under 12th Finance Commission project, it has passed an order to release Rs 98 lakh, Youth Services and Sports department Assistant Director G Gayathri told Deccan Herald.

The work on indoor and outdoor stadium has already been commenced by Land Army Corporation. The work is under progress. However, owing to the rains, the work has been delayed. “As soon as the fund is released, we will finalise the project. We will also discuss with Land Army Corporation to speed up the work after monsoon.”

The work on construction of 550 metre compound wall around outdoor stadium is nearing completion. The work on laying Japan metal sheets above spectators gallery has been completed. After the monsoon, the work on underground drainage and 400 metres tracks will be undertaken.

The work on construction of pillars for the indoor stadium has already begun. Sports Commissioner has directed Land Army Corporation to complete the work on both the stadium by January 2010.

However, owing to the heavy rains, work can not be undertaken for four months. In this background, one can not rule out the fact that Land Army Corporation may require few more months to complete the work.

At the same time, the work on indoor stadium at Koodige Sports School is nearing completion. About Rs 15.13 lakh will be released for the completion of the work, Gayathri informed.
