Called ‘X-Safe Helmet’, this helmet has been designed as a part of their final year project.
In case of an accident, if a two-wheeler rider falls down, the pressure on the helmet due to the fall is picked up and converted into an electrical signal by a pressure sensor. This signal is then wirelessly transmitted to the receiver, inside the bike, which sends this message along with the GPS co-ordinates of the accident location to the ambulance control room. This helps the operators at the ambulance control room to dispatch the nearest available ambulance to the spot thereby increasing the chances of the victim’s survival.

This project also has another innovative feature, ‘Vehicle tracking in case of theft’. A two wheeler, which is missing or stolen, can be tracked very soon anywhere in the country with the help of a text message sent from the owner’s mobile. This data can be provided to the nearest police station thereby helping the police to track the vehicle in the shortest possible time.

“We are pleased to have worked on such a challenging and innovative project since our main aim was to do something socially useful,” said Vishnu Yadav K, a member of the team. The other members of the group are Vikas B R, Sithara P S B, Shabarinath S and Sanjay S.

“I am very happy about the successful completion of this project by our students which will help the public on a large scale,” said H N Devaraj, HOD of Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, who guided the students.

Shivashankar, the principal of PES Polytechnic College appreciated and congratulated the students on this innovative project. “The projects will be exhibited at national and international platforms with little improvement and modification. Our own engineering college, PES Institute of Technology, has a well-equipped Research and Development (R&D) Centre. Hence, I am hopeful that the faculty members will help our students for the betterment of the project,” he says.
