Yes, thyroid imbalances can trigger hair loss and also dryness of the hair. Regular medication to treat the imbalance will gradually check hair loss. Twice a week, heat pure coconut oil and apply on your hair. Dip a towel in hot water, squeeze out excess water and wrap it around the head, like a turban. Leave it on for 5 minutes. Repeat the hot towel wrap 3 or 4 times.

This helps the hair and scalp absorb the oil better. Use a mild herbal shampoo. Use less shampoo and rinse well with water. After shampooing, apply a creamy conditioner, taking less quantity and massaging it lightly into the hair. Leave on for 2 minutes and rinse off with plain water. You can also apply a “leave-on” type of conditioner or hair serum. Your diet is very important. A small bowl of sprouts daily and fresh fruits, salads, leafy green vegetables, soyabean, curd, are a must for healthy skin and hair. Amla is said to check greying. So, you can add amla to henna powder. However, henna leaves a reddish brown colour on white hair. It will not colour dark hair.

Soak a handful of dry amla in 2 - 3 cups of water overnight. Next morning, strain the water, but do not throw the water away. Grind the amla. To the henna powder, add the ground amla, 4 teaspoons each of lemon juice and coffee, 2 raw eggs, 2 teaspoons oil and enough amla water, so that the henna mixes into a thick paste. Keep the paste for 2-3 hours and then apply it on the hair, so that the entire head is covered. Keep it on for at least two hours and wash with plain water. The oil and eggs will prevent dryness.
