Guddu Verma, a jobless youth, surrendered in the court instead of his elder brother, Manohar, who was on the run, to protect his  brother  from being arrested. He realised that if Manohar was put behind bars, it would be difficult for his poverty-stricken family to survive.  An arrest warrant had been issued by the Naubatpur police against Manohar who was was accused of having a scuffle with a person, who he alleged practised witchcraft.

Before the police could come knocking on his doors, Manohar fled the place and evaded arrest for sometime. However, when the police pressure mounted, Guddu realised that his elder brother could not escape the clutches of the police for too long.  Against this backdrop, Guddu surrendered in the court of the First Class Judicial Magistrate, Danapur, S.C Sharma. The judge sent him to jail after rejecting the regular bail petition moved in the name of Manohar.

The complainant, through his petition, told the court that the arrest of Manohar was itself a case of impersonation and needed proper investigation. The judge eventually ordered an inquiry which detected the fraud. As a consequence, a case against Guddu was lodged, while search for Manohar is on.
