Excise dept destroys seized liquor

It was stored in godowns for distribution during elections

The liquor was seized from godowns stored illegally for distribution during the elections in various parts of the taluk.

3,743 litres

The excise officials said a total of 3,743 litres of spurious liquor, 699 litres of beer and 65 litres of spirit were destroyed as the department was not supposed to sell or store them.  

However, they were allowed to sell the empty bottles and remit the the proceeds from the sale to the Government, Sub-Inspector (Excise) A C Kanade told Deccan Herald.

‘After long time’

“We should have destroyed the liquor a few days ago, but couldn’t do so for some reasons. We are destroying the seized liquor after a long time,” said Excise Official sub-division officer K Rajashekharayya.

It took more than one hour to empty all the bottles. Tahsildar Poornima and other officials were present.
