The taluk has been receiving rains belatedly, though not uniformly. Accordingly, sowing is uneven in the taluk. However, farmers are purchasing seeds with the fond hope of good rains. Farmers purchasing avare and toor seeds was a common scene at the shandy in the town. The price of toor seeds was hovering around Rs 85 per kg. Sowing is mostly taken up in mango groves in the taluk. The practice of sowing dicotyledon grains instead of the traditional ragi and toor is becoming more popular.
