JAC threatens to go on strike over Telangana issue

Last Updated 15 July 2011, 10:01 IST

The leaders of JAC, comprising TRS, BJP and several people's organisations, met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and informed him about their decision.

"The Chief Minister said he is neither supportive nor against the Telangana demand and that there is nothing in his hands," JAC Convener M Kodandaram told reporters.
He said people from various sections of the society in Telangana would participate in the proposed strike.

The government employees' unions in Telangana had served a notice to the Andhra Pradesh government yesterday stating that they would strike work after August 1. The JAC, Telangana leaders in major parties like Congress, TDP and others have threatened to intensify the separate statehood agitation from August.

As many as 100 MLAs and 15 MPs from Telangana had quit their posts en masse in support of the separate statehood agitation earlier this month.
