A particular hairstyle called the halo requires a special mention. The halo is about strong, round shapes with eye-skimming fringes worn forward, exuding a look of playfulness. The look was devised in a studio in Mumbai, with variations in colour and texture. By playing around with colour, it has produced striking effects that require little maintenance. The length is maintained but has a seasonal edge by placing bold slices of colour.

For boys, two cool looks are doing the rounds. Both are very strong masculine  styles, without the  spiky, over- textured look. Men’s styling is leaning towards a more sophisticated place based on the strength of the shape rather than the strength of the gel used to style the hair. Although both  looks are quite different from each other, they share a few things in common — clean outlines, better blends, etc.

But what about hair trends elsewhere? London has, more than any other city, an unparalleled culture of street fashion. All across the city, there are people trying on new looks. This is the start of a new trend in hairstyles.

So hair trends then? The girls are gung ho about the ‘Halo’, a  style haircut that is reminiscent of the early 80’s iconic styles created by Vidal Sassoon and Trevor Sorbie. The boys are paying homage to a bygone era with very clean tapered exteriors, building into longer and heavier layers through the top.

Tip: The boys should give up on hairstyling gel. The ill effects of the products have been duly noted by the industry and it is time to say goodbye.
