A couple in love from Mysore allegedly committed suicide by jumping off from Ramadevara Betta (Srirama Nagar) popular as ‘Sholay betta’ (hill).

The deceased have been identified as Salim (22) and Sahera (18), neighbours and residents of ‘A’ block in Kurimandi in Kesare.

According to the police, they came to the hill on Monday morning on a two-wheeler. They parked the vehicle at the foot of the hill, before climbing it. The two didn’t return till late in the night, police added quoting shepherds. Subsequently, a manhunt was launched, but to no avail as they could not be traced till midnight. The police resumed search operation on Tuesday morning only to trace the mortal remains. Kabbal, a boy belonging to the family of shepherds has told the police that the two were in serious conversation atop the hill. It was the youth who made an attempt to take the extreme step first, but was stopped by the girl.

Eventually, the youth jumped off dragging the girl along with him by holding her hand. The relatives who were shocked to learn about the incident had one thing to say- the parents of both the victims were unaware about the relationship. Had the two expressed their feelings, there were chances of elders giving consent to their marriage.  Ramanagar rural police have registered a case.
